Remember: You are a child of God; saving souls

To the Sentinel:
It is with joy and great sadness to lose such a great friend, mentor and soulmate. (Father Bernard Sander) knew me so well and still loved me! I’m sure so many can say that, but I experienced it and I hope I learned how to love better because of it. The best tribute to this holy man is to love people as he did. He saw God in everyone and embraced Him.
The last word he gave me was when I last visited. I could tell he didn’t recognize me (which was a first) and I asked him, “Do you know who I am?”
He said, “Is that important?”
It struck my proud heart.
I sat quiet for awhile and then asked him, “What should I remember?”
He was quiet for a long time and I thought he didn’t understand me or hear me and the quiet continued for a little longer and then he said, “Remember you are a Child of God.”
That’s what I will always remember and he would want you to remember that too.
His work is done on earth
Now it begins from home!
