To the Sentinel:
Ronald Fetty Jr. suggests that victims of clergy sexual abuse should “pray for the perpetrators and get on with their lives.” He proposes that children and parents sometimes lie and suggests many of the lawsuits against the Catholic Church are “frivolous.”
Perhaps the bishops who transferred errant priests from parish to parish shared Ronald’s views, giving the rehabilitation of offending priests and the repression of scandal priority. Such “charitable” views only enabled and protected pedophiles.
Policies now implemented by the bishops will deter criminal behavior towards children in the future. It has been a costly, costly lesson but, no doubt, Jesus would count the safety of children more important than any loss of revenue in our church.
On another matter, those who say Sen. Hillary Clinton is “cold, ambitious and wicked” constitute an unfair diatribe against an accomplished, intelligent woman.
There is a Patriarchal, male viewpoint that assigns women a kitchen, a ladle in hand, a baby on each hip with one in the womb. The men ascribing to such a rigid viewpoint will never vote for a woman.
That women would subscribe to such a narrow vision for their sisters and daughters is appalling. This is the same authority that assigns the burka and selective abortion.
