To the Sentinel:
Sophia Macaitas’ inspiring story in the Nov. 19 Catholic Sentinel reveals the life-changing impact that the Father Taaffe Homes have had on scores of young women and their children in the Willamette Valley.
The three Salem homes provide a safe, nurturing environment for these single moms who — despite societal pressure to terminate their pregnancies — have chosen to bring their babies to life.
Father Taaffe was committed to these young families, and his dedicated efforts kept the homes open. Since his death last year, Catholic Community Services of the Mid-Willamette Valley has inherited the Father Taaffe mission.
The budget is austere, and the homes rely on charitable gifts to keep these resources available for young mothers like Sophia. Readers who want to support the mission may make gifts in any amount to Catholic Community Services Foundation, P.O. Box 20400, Salem, OR 97307.
