Ronald Walter Magnuson, 83, died Feb. 4 of a ruptured thoracic aortic aneurysm. There was a funeral Mass at St. Edward Church, North Plains.
Mr. Magnuson was born Feb. 7, 1933, in Portland. He graduated from Benson Tech High School, class of 1951. He and Kathryn Foote married June 13, 1953, in Vancouver, Washington. They began their family in North Portland and then moved to North Plains. Mr. Magnuson served a four-year apprenticeship as a sheet metal worker for Local 16 and began working as a journeyman in 1955, specializing in architectural and restoration like cornices, coping and copper roofs. He worked for General Sheet Metal, Schneider Sheet Metal and Portland Public Schools. He retired in 1991.
Mr. and Mrs. Magnuson shared a 40-year hobby and passion collecting rare original auto literature and brochures. Their substantial library has been integral in helping auto enthusiasts worldwide complete their collections.
In 2000 the Magnusons moved to Hillsboro.
Mr. Magnuson is survived by his wife and four children, Marlene Herinckx of Phoenix (Oregon), Marilyn Nelson of Beaverton, Carl Magnuson of Helvetia and Daryl Magnuson of San Diego; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, and cousins in Portland, Bend and Tigard.
