Mrs. Meeuwsen was born on Oct. 9, 1928, at St. Joseph Hospital in San Francisco. She was the only child of James and Sarah (Dooney) Tolan. She was raised in Portland, living in the Mount Tabor neighborhood.

She married Maurice Meeuwsen May 8, 1954, at Ascension Church, Portland. They moved to Roy where they harvested strawberries and various grains, while also operating their business, Maurice Meeuwsen Construction.

They were parishioners of St. Francis of Assisi in Roy.

Mrs. Meeuwsen enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting, trying new recipes, camping, crossword puzzles and lunches out.

The couple celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary before Maurice died in 2005.

Mrs. Meeuwsen was a loving mother to 10 children, 24 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren. She was adored by her husband and family and will live forever in their hearts.

She is preceded in death by her daughter, Margaret Meeuwsen, who died at age 5, and her parents.

She is survived by her children and their spouses, Neil Meeuwsen of Hillsboro; Suzanne Lewis, Earl Meeuwsen and Robert Meeuwsen of Forest Grove; Peter Meeuwsen of Carlton; Gordon Meeuwsen and Keith Meeuwsen of Roy; Barbara Ewing and Maureen Herb, of Banks.

The Meeuwsen family, in her memory, recommends that you take a senior to lunch often. Donations can be made to the St. Francis of Assisi Church, 39136 NW Harrington Road, Banks 97106, or to the Banks Food Bank in her memory.
