FOREST GROVE — Penny Loretta Hancock, 89, a longtime resident of the Forest Grove community, died Nov. 28, 2016, at The Gardens Assisted Living Center in Forest Grove. There was a funeral Mass at Visitation Church, Verboort.
Interment was at the Willamette National Cemetery.
Mrs. Hancock was born June 15, 1927, in Oakland, California, the daughter of the late Charles L. Franks and Florence Violet (Rock) Franks. She was raised and received her education in Oakland, California, and later Klamath Falls.
She married Donald Hancock Sept. 6, 1946, in Sacred Heart Church in Klamath Falls. Following their marriage they lived in Klamath Falls until 1961 when they moved to Portland.
In 1995, the Hancocks began traveling the United States and Alaska in their fifth wheel for twenty years until 2011, when they moved to the Wilsonville community. In December of 2014, they moved to the Forest Grove community, where she had resided since.
Mrs. Hancock, a homemaker, was a lifelong member of the Catholic Church and attended the Visitation Parish in Verboort. She also was a member of the Elks Lodge B.P.O.E. #2342 in Sherwood.
Among her special interests she enjoyed crocheting, knitting, needlepoint and cooking. Mrs. Hancock also loved traveling and was an avid reader, of romance and mysteries novels.
Mrs. Hancock was preceded in death by her husband on Jan. 20, 2015, after celebrating over 68 years of marriage together.
She is survived by her children, Marilyn Hancock, of Forest Grove, and her son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Kim Hancock, of Vancouver, Washington.
Also surviving are her four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
