Craig Casey

Craig Joseph Casey, 72, died peacefully at home Nov. 20. There will be a funeral Mass 10 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 3, at St. Mary Cathedral.

Born Dec. 20, 1943, the son of Don and Suzanne Chassaing Casey, Mr. Casey attended The Madeleine School and Jesuit High School.

Following his graduation from the University of Portland, with a degree in History, and the completion of his legal studies at the University of Oregon Law School, Craig served in the U.S. Army Judge Advocate General (JAG) Corps where he is remembered for his contributions to a number of prominent cases.

Following his career as an assistant U.S. Attorney, Mr. Casey was ordained a deacon and served in the diaconate for six years at St. Mary's Cathedral. He did additional work for the church at the diocesan tribunal. He was devoted to his Roman Catholic faith and, in particular, to the Virgin Mary.

Mr. Casey was a gifted pianist who loved the works of the Romantics. He gave endless hours to the success of Portland Piano International and other music related events. He loved recording his favorite artists and was proud of his collection of music scores and recordings.

Mr. Casey could be self-deprecating as well as bitingly funny. Streams of humor were exchanged with his brother Dean and his sister Suzanne. Husband of Nancy Carlin Casey, he had four children, Anne Marie, Matthew, Sarabeth and Andrea; three stepchildren, Margaret, Sally and Joe; five grandchildren; and was uncle of six nieces and nephews and more than a dozen grand-nephews and nieces.

Remembrances can be made to St. Mary's Cathedral, Portland, Oregon.
