Seventh- and eighth-grade students at St. Andrew Nativity School in Portland have been hard at work raising funds for victims of sex trafficking in Oregon. The students are members of a group called Healthy Choices, led by school counselor Sonya Strickland. The group currently is focused on learning about sex trafficking — participating in written and art activities to help identify and express their feelings around the topic. The students also are conducting a fundraiser to help victims of sex trafficking.

The money collected from the fundraiser will be donated to WorldVenture, which helps victims — often girls and young women. Students were expected to meet their goal of $200 with raffles, Valentine’s Day sales and other fundraising efforts. When the fundraising is over, the agency receiving the funds will come to Nativity School and put on two assemblies, one for girls and one for boys, to educate them about sex trafficking.
