Presenters at the Star of the Sea Respect for Life event spoke to about 70 people from the area.
BROOKINGS — Star of the Sea Parish marked the 44th anniversary of Roe v. Wade with a Respect for Life rally that  drew around 70 people from the community.

The event drew support from the parish’s Respect for Life group, Altar Society, Knights of Columbus, youth ministry and parishioners, as well as a local church in Harbor.

Lori Eckstine, director and co-founder of Project Aurora, spoke to attendees about helping bring men and women toward healing through her work as a post-abortive counselor with Rachel’s Vineyard.

Coral Rose Shipley, a member of the Parents’ Rights in Education group, talked about her concerns with school-based health centers and how parents can opt out, Planned Parenthood and risks of teen health surveys given in schools.

Among the additional speakers were Valerie Cowan, youth director for the parish; Father Luan Nyugen, pastor; Pastor Jim Schultz from Lighthouse Assembly of God; and Patty DeMartin, director of the pregnancy care centers in Brookings and Crescent City, California.
