SCAPPOOSE — Massing of the Colors by the fourth degree, folding of the colors and three-volley Salute by American Legion Post 42, playing of taps by the local Boy Scouts, praying of the rosary and the celebrating of Mass: These were among the events at the Memorial Day celebration here hosted by the local Knights of Columbus. Mass was celebrated by Father Frank Knusel, an Air Force veteran, for departed service members. The Mass included a soldier’s cross and reading of a letter from the archbishop of the  Archdiocese for Military Services by a member of the Catholic War Veterans. Attendees then gathered for lunch with the missing servicemen’s table and ceremony. A free-will offering was collected for the Oregon Veterans Home and the military archdiocese. More than 100 individuals attended one or more of the events.
