WOODBURN — St. Luke Middle School students spent a few days this fall going to school in a beautiful outdoor setting on the Oregon coast. Thirteen sixth-graders learned about natural history and ecology while spending time at Camp Westwind Outdoor School in Lincoln City.

“Our annual Outdoor School trip is a wonderful opportunity for the sixth-graders to get out of the classroom for a few days and learn about our natural environment,” said Darrell Risen, the St. Luke seventh-grade teacher who accompanied the students on the trip along with Jesuit Volunteer Emily Curran. “Allowing them to experience our beautiful coast is the perfect setting for this type of instruction.”

Risen says the students always look forward to this trip when they become sixth-graders and

it serves as a great way for the students to bond together as a class.
