CORNELIUS — Luz Moreno Ayala, 81, died Dec. 18, 2016, in her home. There was a funeral Mass at St. Alexander Church, followed by a private cremation.

Mrs. Moreno was born Tacambaro, Michoacan, Mexico, the daughter of the late Andres Moreno Martinez and Clementina Ayala Gonzalez. She was raised and educated in the Tacambaro community.

She married Luis Felipe Moreno in 1955 in Tacambaro, Michoacan. The lived in Mexico until 1988 when her husband moved to Oregon. In 1995, she moved to Hillsboro. They moved to Cornelius in 2000.

She worked as a seamstress for friends and family for many years.

Mrs. Moreno, an active parishioner of St. Alexander, was preceded in death by her husband, Luis, on Jan. 30, 2007.

Among her special interests she enjoyed cooking, sewing and watching her soap operas. She also loved reading, especially religious books, and writing and receiving cards from her loved ones.

Survivors include her two sons and six daughters, and their spouses: Jose Moreno of Hillsboro; Victoria Moreno of Mexico; Esther Moreno of Mexico; and Bertha Moreno, Francisca Moreno, Gerardo Moreno and Maria de la Luz Moreno, all of Cornelius; and Flor Sujey Moreno of Mexico. Also surviving are 31 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; many step-sons and a step-daughter, and their families; and numerous nieces and nephews.
