Joan Mary Keefe, 85, of McKinney, Texas, passed away at home early Monday, Jan. 9 after a long and valiant struggle with cancer. There will be a rosary at 10:30 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 14, at St. Francis Church, 15651 SW Oregon St., Sherwood.

The second daughter of Evans and Marie (Miller) McLean, Mrs. Keefe was born July 17, 1931, in Portland, where she attended Holy Child Academy and was an accomplished figure skater.

She spent 31 years as a military spouse, raising five children throughout the turmoil of frequent moves and deployments. She loved travel and had a great sense of adventure. She also volunteered countless hours in support of her children’s activities and devoted herself to causes that bettered the lives of others.  

She loved visiting with family and friends, playing the piano, reading and solving puzzles.

Mrs. Keefe was preceded in death by her parents and brother Evans McLean, sister-in-law Rosie McLean, son-in- law Robert Cleveland and brother-in-law John McLaughlin. She is survived by her two sisters, Dolores McLaughlin and Marilyn Sykes and Marilyn’s husband Bill, and her children Jackie Cleveland, Shawn Keefe, Therese Bateman and husband Doug, and Tim and wife Sherry; and her grandchildren, Tim, Paul, Jennifer, Tony, Jake, Kacey, Matthew, Jennifer, Stephen, Daniel, Chris, Crystal and Connor. She is also survived by 17 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and her Cairn terriers Sophie and Sadie.
